Great thread on a fascinating paper. I learned a lot reading both.

Congrats to @[email protected] & @[email protected] on a valuable new paper challenging the near-consensus that we're in a period of democratic decline. It's worth reading the thread & paper. But two points in response before anyone concedes the threat is over-hyped. /1 https://twitter.com/annemeng_/status/1615746297885036545

“🚨NEW PAPER ALERT!! @anthlittle and I are excited to share our new working paper “Subjective and Objective Measurement of Democratic Backsliding.” 🔥Our hot take🔥: Contrary to the current narrative, we DON’T find evidence that we are in a period of global democratic decline 🧵1/”

New paper with @annemeng: "Subjective and Objective Measurement of Democratic Backsliding." Short version is that when focusing on objective measures that don't rely on subjective coder judgement, we find little evidence of a global democratic decline in recent years.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a history of the Han dynasty?

Currently reading a fantasy series inspired by it (the dandelion dynasty by ken liu, it’s great), and I’d like to learn more about the real thing.

Finally

Me thinking about making a beef stew: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!

Me waiting for the stew to cook for hours: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
