Software designed this way does not end up the way you think it would.

(Unless you think it would be a mess of flamewars, conflicting requirements, and impossible standards, from a non-representative group that thinks they're representative, resulting in a confusing, complicated, and unmaintainable app, that nobody, including them, would use or be happy with, and would make the developer zero dollars… in which case, it would end up exactly the way you think it would.)

@[email protected] Could you crowdsource the design of this feature on a site like Reddit that allows up/down voting? While some suggestions will be impractical/not general enough, you might get some useful suggestions that you hadn’t yet considered.

Since a few folks asked—I stepped back from my WIRED column after many years. WIRED did great by me, and I’ll do stuff for them as long as they’ll have me. But I felt I was repeating myself, and…I should make space for others.
