I also think that if we are separated in what we are seeing then we are also even more separated in our view of one another as human beings. We forget that the people on social media are also people too and I think that even more so this is increased when we see social situations occurring that we might not be able to explain or understand, possibly because our algorithms aren't the same #so339
I think that the separation between what people see in their algorithm, specifically when it comes to police media, is really important and could be dangerous because it could increase riots and violence, yet also causes a more polarizing view of the issue because for those who don't realize the injustices occurring, they find marches and calls for reforms to be unnecessary and our of no where. This further disconnects us as a society #so339
I guess maybe the fact that this is so logical that means that it probably often times gets over looked because of its normalcy. I'm not sure if i agree with the use of social media as a monitor for crime as I can see both the good and bad aspects of it, particularly when it comes to public accounts and public postings #so339
I found this article to be really interesting in the way that it is discussing how law enforcement utilize social media as a means to find criminals and social conflicts. Yet, I also think that this seems a bit obvious in a way, as of course our law enforcement would look at our online discourse in order to understand the state of our society #so339
I think going along with this, we can use this example of drill music as a further means for us to better understand how the way we present ourselves online can greatly change how we are and who we become. Some of these people because true criminals or became in real danger because of their posts and I think this shows us that there are definite and real consequences to our online presence, even if when we just post we may not immediately see that danger/risk #so339
I found this book to be a really insightful and helpful means for me to understand drill music and the culture that surrounds it. I think the conversation surrounding drill music is something that we don't all often think to discuss, largely because if you aren't a part of this circle you probably don't have a lot of exposure to it, yet learning about the differing autheticity people hold when it comes to this topic, i think it really does show us how unrealistic media can be #so339
I also think this section of the reading gave me more of a humanistic idea of those who participate with drill music. I think sometimes we just say "people" listen to it and forget that these people are real and have thoughts and feelings and dreams. This section helped me to remember the humanity behind the numbers and fans and posts of drill music. Its just people looking for a way to connect and find their place in this world and i think, while sometimes its misguided, thats also cool #so339
I think reading this section of the book definitely helped me to form a more rounded view of drill music and how it truly impacts society. I think at first our main focus surrounding drill music has been the ways it promotes false depictions of lifestyles and the strange ways it is promoted, yet this section showed some of the benefits of this music, like less criminal activity at times due to listeners of it. #so339
I think this conversation surrounding drill culture should be paid very close attention to because it really does show some of the falsities of the online world and the ways that we may only desire the "good parts" of an experience, while ignoring the "bad" which only furthers our understanding of humanity as a very one way or another world, which is good insight for us if we are trying to understand why people sometimes join gangs and affiliations the way they do #so339
I think this reading was interesting particularly because of the level of interest those of a more privileged lifestyle react and participate with drill culture. Their desire to almost "be a part" of it but also not be in danger is such an interesting paradox and its even weirder when we think about how these people might never admit their desires in person and only show them online in fake personas #so339
