Well our system is different obviously, but I’m in the Holy Royal Arch, the Mark and the Royal Ark Mariners (an appendant body that’s “moored” to a Mark lodge). The RAM has interesting aprons…

Visiting Science Fiction and Fantasy Lodge #10016 - Lemmy.world
Yesterday I visited Freemasons Hall in the Midlands town of Burton on Trent for
the one-year Anniversary meeting of one of UGLE’s newest ‘special interest
lodges’, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Lodge #10016. Their ritual is slightly
tweaked, so the Director of Ceremonies carries Gandalf the White’s staff, the
Deacons carry lightsabers (complete with light and sound effects) and the
Tiler’s weapon is a Klingon bat’leth. Other quirks include copies of Mjolnir,
Thor’s hammer, acting as gavels and a TARDIS as a ballot box. After the Festive
Board there was a heated debate in the carpark about whether Call of Cthulhu or
Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition was the better game, prompted by one of the
brethren changing into a Cthulhu t-shirt for his long drive home in the hot
weather. As they say, ‘Oh Wonderful Masons!’ 😁

Since the blackout I've looked at Reddit threads occasionally, but haven't commented or voted on anything. I'm keeping my powder dry until the end of the month to see what happens. If I lose access to third party apps and modding of my favourite subs goes to shit I'm out.
A potentially stupid question so I apologise in advance. Am I right in thinking that this community is sitting on a Lemmy-based server, but it just has an unusual name rather than the typical xxxxx.lemmy/lemmy.xxxxx format?
You're not the only person I've seen saying that - it might be because all the nice people have stayed away during the blackout leaving the toxic sludge to rise to the top in their absence...
I have no idea unfortunately - we're all feeling our way here at the moment...
Ok, so I've just joined it. You have to search for it in the 'All' communities tab and subscribe to it first. Then you can post.
I think you're wildly overestimating that timetable - over on that site I'm a member of a sub where you need intimate knowledge of the subject to moderate it effectively (and because of the nature of the subject it gets a lot of trolls to put it mildly). With no community mods that sub would become a cesspit within days, as would subs that are the focus of the alt-right, such as science, LGBT subs etc. It's going to be a bin fire 🔥
It's a bit worse than that actually. I'm now seeing several communities with exactly the same name that originate on different servers - so clearly Lemmy doesn't have a rule about duplication. once you cross a server boundary. That's going to get unwieldy quite fast...
So I think I've spotted an issue. I can give you several examples, but I spotted that there are several 'Technology' communities that originate on different servers. That's potentially going to cause a lot of confusion going forward - I don't want to subscribe to two or three of everything...
