Mastodon looks fun. I like tech and video games. I am passionate about privacy issues.

@victorhck

One tip I learned recently and use constantly is 'c' - all of the commands you posted, if you do 'c' instead of 'd' it will 'change' what's between the things- delete and then go into insert mode

I might get on mastodon more often now that I discovered you can now block entire domains. Just checked- I had no less than 40 switter.at profiles blocked and still got switter in my federated timeline. Now I can fix that.

I probably would like The Police better if it didn't seem like I accidentally pushed the "repeat 1" button in the middle of every song. I can do like a third of a song at a time haha

Also, I didn't know mastodon could do polls! That's cool!

@jalf although the filtering I want (to block entire instances like switter) can't even be done at the server level, so whatever I guess.
@drewthewho I know multiple people who did the same thing and were so glad they finally went. I wish you luck!
@jalf I have been using Tusky, but it doesn't seem to have any filtering capabilities on the federated timeline.

@bhtooefr @brainblasted the main opposition I foresee to decreasing federal influence in favor of state influence is taxes- I understand for most things the federal government takes most of the taxes and then grants money to the states ear marked for certain things. States would have to reject that concept to raise taxes themselves.

Which is the economic compromise of acting more like a unified country. Poorer states would simply have less money to do things.

@bhtooefr 2nd amendment play, like a revolution? The problem with revolutions (aside from them not at all working most of the time) is that you have to have a replacement of some sort. So it doesn't actually solve the problem at all
@bhtooefr oh hey we agree in a 10th amendment principle- far-away voters really shouldn't matter to me very much
