Faults are human; what matters is to go further, to live, to be intense, to aim high, and to be loyal. —Tom Sachs

You can always add to who you are

Humans are not fixed and “change” is too zero sum

Reframing “I need to change who I am” to “I can add to who I am”

In a performance review several years ago, my manager sat me down, took a deep breath, and gave it to me straight: “You’ve got to be friendlier. It doesn’t matter if you’re the smartest person in the room if nobody likes you.” It wasn’t the first time I’d heard that kind of suggestion. For most of my career I’ve gotten feedback on how to change myself to be more successful.

In 2008 I showed up to Y Combinator Startup School to take photos of speakers and learn how to start a startup.

I was an engineer and designer and had never started a company before.

Today I am the new President & CEO of Y Combinator, an organization that is a true magnet for smart ambitious high integrity people who believe technology can solve the problems facing humanity.

And those that believe are those that do.

Looking forward to an epic 2023. 🙏

PG in 2008: "Steam power was a sliver of the British economy when Watt started working on it. But his work led to more work till that sliver had expanded into something bigger than the whole economy of which it had initially been a part.

The same thing could happen with the Internet."

Good prediction

Pretty cool thing: Because of the Internet, everyone who is into thing X can meet each other now

Before, ideas of all kinds would live/die alone in one person stuck in one place in time. You could escape only through books.

Now the infinite book connects you to all others.
