@celes @Enfors Hey I just had an idea. Mastodon could add some sort of setting/API call that would allow instance admins to set a default language and optionally federate only with other instances of the same language if they want.
@celes @Enfors so then maybe the solution is to allow users to set languages for their profile so that their feed is limited to posts by other users who are set to those languages, while still allowing them to look up any user's account.
@osahiro on Amaroq, the iOS app, you can see those numbers ;)
@osahiro I might send a bug report to Amaroq to convince them to remove it. And maybe Mastodon should remove it from the API so app developers cannot access it.
The local feed is the only one worth paying attention to, it seems. The federated feed is overrun with Japanese spam. :/
And what's with the nsfw tag being used for non-nsfw content? Smh.
@Enfors I've seen some people have that same language complaint, only to be shamed for it when people say they shouldn't hate/discriminate/etc. but that's not the point. Being able to control the language used in one's feed determines the usefulness of the feed to that person. And a feed that's low on usefulness will drive users away.
@dsale maybe that's a request to follow that they have to accept
