Thunder's Topic in treatment for testicular cancer - Lemmy.World

> Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topic has begun chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, general manager Sam Presti told reporters Thursday. > Presti said doctors are “extremely positive” about the long-term outlook for Topic, the No. 12 pick in the 2024 draft who sat out last season while recovering from a torn ACL. > Topic underwent a procedure in early October at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to get a biopsy. After receiving the results, he asked the Thunder to not publicly reveal his diagnosis until he had started the chemotherapy treatments, Presti said. My dude can’t catch a break.

FFXIV on Linux - Lemmy.World

This question may be rudimentary for a lot of people here, but since Microsoft has decided to stop supporting Windows 10 I have really thought about switching my PC that runs Final Fantasy 14 to a Linux box. So, the question is: Is anyone here playing this game on Linux, and how well does it run? I have a relatively old PC, old enough so that I can’t upgrade it to Windows 11, but it plays Final Fantasy 14 just fine. So I assume on Linux the game will run OK. However, I worry that if there’s an extra layer with wine or some other emulation that it may run a little more sluggish. Is Bazzite the way to go? EDIT after installation (Feb 2026): So this last week I finally pulled the plunge and installed linux on both my laptop and desktop. There was one too many “hey you should use one drive” full page pop-ups as I turned on my pc that sent me into a rage. Anyway, I ended up just going with Mint in the end. It was simple, looks good. “Feels” solid. I don’t have XIV via steam, so I just used XIVLauncher straight up, and that has worked! HOWEVER, there were, of course, a couple of hiccups, and I’ll note them here in case someone is curious about switching like I was: - I initially installed XIVLauncher via the built-in software management tool which uses flatpack. And while the game did run, on my laptop it simply wouldn’t see my gpu (Nvidia). I tried several things, but the solution turned out to be installing XIVLauncher as an appImage [https://github.com/goatcorp/XIVLauncher.Core?tab=readme-ov-file#distribution] instead. That fixed this issue. - The second big thing is the game wouldn’t see my Dualsense controller. Mint saw it just fine. But FFXIV wouldn’t. The game would see Switch and Xbox controllers just fine, but no Playstation controllers (Dualsense or PS4). I actually don’t exactly know the solution here, BUT the problem went away when I installed Steam onto the system. My guess is just by doing this (and testing the controller with a steam game) installed maybe a better driver for the Dualsense. Totally not sure, but after installing Steam I had no more issues with FFXIV. And so at this point the game runs great on Linux! I’m getting a locked 60fps (again, my pc is now 10 years old running a 1070 and because of the current prices I’m probably just going to use it until I die). So thanks everyone for your input!

Let’s talk iPadOS 26

Let’s talk iPadOS 26 - Lemmy.World

So the other day I went ahead and installed the current beta on my M1 iPad Pro to try out. I’m currently typed this in Arctic on the iPad right now in a window that doesn’t try to snap to pre-determined lanes! Crazy! I have generally been using it with Universal Control from my Mac to get the mouse and keyboard over, and that - so far - works pretty well. But I wanted to open the floor up to see if anyone else has tried it and what their opinions are. Or, if you haven’t and have a question about the windowing stuff, I or others might be able to field them. For me, other than what I’ll chalk up to beta bugs mostly, I do think this has legs. Obviously not the full macOS everyone has been clamoring for, but it’s certainly usable and more or less works like you assume it works. Hopefully down the line Apple will figure out how to extend the background tasks to include stuff like running local servers/Node and whatnot for project development. But we’ll see. There is some wonkiness when putting a window to the top of the screen, as it then has to do some battling with the clock/battery area and the new menu bar dropdown. At that point you have to click to get to the stop lights where otherwise you can just hover over them. So anyway, how has the beta been treating you? Or if you have questions an interaction or whatever, we can all help answer them.

How decentralized is Bluesky really? - Lemmy.World

This is a pretty great, long form post about the structure of Bluesky, and how it’s largely kinda pretending to be decentralized at the moment. I’m not trying to make a dig at it. I’ve enjoyed the platform myself for a while, but it’s good to learn more about how it actually works. Your FFXIV Conspiracy Theories - Lemmy.World

This is largely a silly post, but I’m curious if anyone has any fun conspiracy theories. Like why does Tataru need that knife on her belt? Is it because she’s got some NEFARIOUS dealings going on to get all that money? More so, I just wanted to see if anyone else believes that the Random Mount button isn’t fully “random.” I swear I see the same handful of mounts summoned more than others. If I see the Manacutter or Yol summoned ONE MORE TIME, I swear…
