so lenin was a shitposter during ww1 and a big question for revolutionaries at that time was, do we want our home nations to lose? for him, it asked: should tsarist russia capitulate to other imperial powers, and should radicals work to realize that self-defeat?

lenin took the unpopular stance that, yes! empires should lose, regardless of where you live. borders are an imperial figment in the face of global struggle, so this sense of “us” and “them” comes pre-packaged in the warlord’s favor.
