Geomob - geoinnovation for fun or profit

@osmalba are OSM drinks on tomorrow at the joker and the thief in Edi? @chris
I honestly can’t express what a wonderful time I had! I hope everyone did too!! 😍 Next date is set, by very very popular demand, on the 28th of Jan - and we already have a VIP speaker - Ed, the OG of @geomob  will be talking to us about geocoding. More speakers to be announced, alongside a venue! Sign up here: https://thegeomob.com/post/jan-28th-2025-geomobedi-details

Fernando talked about creating a methodology for understanding what affects migration flights. He took us through some interesting mathematics of using data from 3 satellites intermingled with data from sensors on animals when they start their flight.
Last was Fernando from St.Andrews uni who dazzled everyone with some pretty cool videos about animal migration! 🦆
He has a huge todo list so check out his project online https://geo.houseofmoran.io/slides/2024_Geomob_Oct_Presentation.pdf
He showed us the ins and outs of how he does this, including turning things into an image to exploit image tools, like masking. He also showed different ways in which he has organised the puzzle pieces he gets when he chops up an area.
Mike then took us through his journey of creating art derived from laying out routes on to a map and chopping up the larger area using the routes, then using bin-packing methodologies to organise them.
It was really interesting to hear about the decisions they made, like using 3d to represent buildings, their research found that users connect with 3d and can navigate the map better.
