ICE BEAR BLUES
Cuddling and touching is increasingly taking place with cuddly toys. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, almost one in five women and one in nine men in Germany do not want to do without a cuddly toy.

THE TRIPTYCH OF KNOWLEDGE — VIOLENCE
Even in my youth, I was struck by the fact that the Bible refers to sexual intercourse as “knowing.”

«And they knew her and abused her all night until the morning.»

THE TRIPTYCH OF KNOWLEDGE — ASTONISHMENT
Even in my youth, I was struck by the fact that the Bible refers to sexual intercourse as “knowing.” The triptych shows three stages of knowledge: astonishment — pleasure — power and violence.
Adam and Eve presumably are astonished “the first time”: “Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain.”

Kafka’s huge insect

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is a complex metaphor, among other things for disrupted communication in isolation, for disgust with the body and the body whose touch one avoids. Even after 100 years, it still feels so modern!

For over 40 years, my artistic practice has centered on the human body as a site of contact—between people, cultures, time, and ideas. I work directly on skin, translating social, political, and philosophical questions into visual language through touch.
In Celebrating the Touch, I invite viewers to feel, and perhaps to remember: our skin is not a barrier. It is our bridge.
