Let's get real: What's your favourite Dinosaur? And why? - sh.itjust.works

Naturally, it’s Ankylosaurus. Just look at this armoured tactical turtle and tell me you do not love this silly little guy! Just wanting to eat his plants. Wanna gnaw on him? Tough luck, it hurts and you cannot crack that shell. Also, he will fucking break your kneecaps with his built-in hammer while you’re bothering him. Spirit animal.

Question for people running default Androids

Question for people running default Androids - sh.itjust.works

People running stock or OEM-Android: what do you think about privacy and your personal data in the hands of Google? For Apple, you just kinda have to trust them on not selling/using/… your private data (not discussing how much that trust is worth…). For Google, it is just clear that they are - it’s their business model after all. Sure - Graphene, Calyx, Lineage etc. exist, but either are limited to specific models, have drawbacks in functionality or are more hassle to setup than most average users are willing to invest. So, if you are aware of this but still opt to running default Google Android: do you just „ignore“ this? Do you try do „degoogle“ as much as possible? I’m curious to see different opinions on this.

Backup for important files/pictures? - sh.itjust.works

How do you backup important things you store in selfhosted clouds? I’m currently thinking about hosting Ente myself for syncing all my pictures. Maybe also spinning up nextcloud for various other shared files. However, for me one main benefit of using services like iCloud is the mitigated risk of losing everything in case the hardware fails (and fire, theft, water-damages, …). Do you keep regular updates on hosted services? Do you keep really important stuff on other providers? Do you have other failsafes?

Opinions/Experiences with mailproviders? - sh.itjust.works

I want to move away from Google and was ready to make the shift to proton exactly the day before all that drama started about the CEO being a trump bootlicker and stuff… Then I looked into some alternatives and haven’t moved yet. So I really can’t decide which one from tuta, Mailbox, kSuite or maybe still proton provides the best service. And recommendations or experiences y’all want to share to help me decide? :) Either a good UI (web/iOS) or very good compatibility with third party apps, good spamfilters and maybe an integrated calendar would be important features.

What's your "weird flex"? - sh.itjust.works

Mine‘s getting so accustomed to cold showers that I a) absolutely do not mind cold water for swimming etc. anymore and b) could not enjoy warm or hot showers anymore. They just weren’t nice at all.

Blue hours - sh.itjust.works

My 2yo has one night with kind of a blue hour every other week, where he wakes up in the night and is just completely awake for 1-2,5 hours. Wanting to read books, maybe snack a bit. They’re more common for him when there’s something up (milestones like learning a lot new words, when he learned to walk, teething, …) Do any of you experience them? How do you handle this? We manage okay with keeping the light low, reading books that he can choose, but otherwise enforced staying in the bed.

How do you make the bed with two blankets?

How do you make the bed with two blankets? - sh.itjust.works

So, we switched from one really big blanket to two individual smaller ones. And every day I’m struggling with the decision. Do I a) let them overlap, which looks good but is a damn hassle to get undone for sleeping b) have them separate and kinda crinkle them so they only cover one half of the bed, which looks ridiculously bad c) some third option my simple mind could not come up with?
