@masu For myself I have found that the only way to counteract that effect is by becoming better at experiencing. Every time I think about something abstractly (e.g. by naming it), my experience of it is reduced to an empty concept. The potential for novelty and detail is crushed by recognizing sameness. A path towards a goal shrinks to a point. The reduction is what makes us efficient, but it also deadens our senses.

confirmed: my hearing is much worse than it was 10 years ago. i can barely tell the difference between white noise and filtered white noise that ends around 13kHz 😔

(individual test tones i can still hear up to 16-17kHz or so)
