My preferred solution at present is to manually specify them in commands or use prefixes to always specify them, or to recommend the use of shell scripts for cases where variables need to be used frequently.
I don't often use environment variables and I'm unsure of cases where it might be advisable to set them in a Telepipe tab for interactive commands, without using prefixes.
