obviously as a marxist adult i can see the flaws in this analysis but nonetheless as a child learning american history i always thought that one of the big lessons of the revolutionary war was that it's bad when a country invades another country halfway across the world so they can continue to dominate it rather than let those people control their own affairs. The lesson I should have took is that the USA is awesome and perfect and is backed personally by God.
I had this problem a lot as a kid come to think of it. Same thing happened when I learned about the Holocaust and took the lesson that genocide is bad, instead of the intended lesson that the Jews are permanent victims and they can never ever be the aggressors or the problem in any situation
