I miss when the Internet had less people.

I have published pixeldrain's yearly recap. It's quite a story.

It has occurred to me that whenever I go to a party there is about a 20% chance I end up trying to explain general relativity to someone.

This is not an isolated incident.. I think it has happened about five times now.

I say 'trying' here, because while I understand the theory relatively well, I have trouble putting it into words. Especially after a few beers.

It's my birthday!

I'm doing a birthday promo on pixeldrain. The free download limit has been raised to 20 GB per day temporarily.

Enjoy!

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii.

NOAA had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

Confirmed German.

Fun fact: "According to estimates by the US Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the world’s coal-fired power stations currently generate waste containing around 5,000 tonnes of uranium and 15,000 tonnes of thorium. Collectively, that’s over 100 times more radiation dumped into the environment than that released by nuclear power stations."

But wait, there is more!:

"For solar power, occupational collective dose normalized to energy is a factor of forty and eighty larger than for the nuclear fuel cycle and coal cycle, respectively."

Them pesky greenhouse gases might not be the worst thing coming out of fossil fuels.
