In an event sure to please a tiny subset of nerds (including Yours Truly): the second digit of the standard Unix timestamp just rolled over from 6 to 7. This happens only every 3.169 years or so (give or take a leap second ;-) -- but also, it's a reminder of encroaching doom.

In the year 2038, the standard Unix timestamp overflows (no longer fits into a 32-bit signed integer), triggering Y2k-like chaos in an unknown but probably large subset of embedded and other devices.

Whee!
