Now with the us actively trying to become a dictatorship, they are trying to make it so that they can get rid of anyone they disagree with, and push their extremest ideals

Everything happening down there just looks far too similar to how ww2 started, the us is looking more and more like 1940s Germany

The entire goal of age verification is government spyware
If you don't understand what's wrong with that, I've got a book suggestion for you: 1984

They want to connect who you are online to who you are irl, track your thoughts, and if you ever say something that they don't like, they WILL know

The sad part: if you told someone from 3 years ago about what's happening, you would be seen as crazy

And what runs on Linux that CAN NOT require it?
Cars, planes, smart appliances, industrial computers, some 3d printers and CNCs, servers, routers
If its got a computer in it, it probably runs Linux

Laws seem to assume that OSes are for personal computers, but they forget about embedded systems, headless servers, and any situation where the end user is not the owner

Oh and they forget that multiple users can use the same machine

The goal of "age verification" is NOT to "protect" children, its actually just to track you online

With recent events south of here, IF YOU ARE A MINORITY, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DO AGE VERIFICATION

And the os level age verification?
Not enforceable for Linux
No one organization develops it
The Linux devs? Work for hundreds of companies+ they don't make an os, they make the kernel for an os
The devs for specific distros? They just distribute the components to make a Linux based os

Being able to unlock the bootloader of a device you own should be legally mandated. I own the hardware, I should own the functionality of it too. I can get the modem being illegal to modify, since that has a ton of regulatory and public safety tape around it, but the OS being irreplacible is dumb.

Also, unlocking the bootloader should be as simple as sending a command to the device. Screw this trend of needing unlock codes (looking at you Motorola, Fairphone, and Co.).

Alright. Let me give my two-cents on age verification.
Completely unnecessary.
Look, I'm all for keeping minors out of adult content, alright? But it's getting out of hand now. Parental controls have worked for the longest time, and it just feels like everyone's trying to hop on the bandwagon of the UK's OSA. It's just a way to collect information about people.
Your ID isn't getting verified. We've already found that out with how easy it is to bypass. Your information is being sold. Persona was collecting it, probably to sell.
Now, the Colorado government is trying to pass OS-level age verification, which is just... Beyond dystopian. This is just downright draconic. Either these lawmakers have no idea what they're doing, or know exactly what they're doing.
And it's not going to stop, either.
They're going to keep pushing these data collection bills, and companies are pushing it globally - nobody will be safe, no matter where in the world you are.
Parental controls worked. Protecting the child is the parent's
