years ago a finnish colleague whispered to me during the round of introductions in a meeting: "finnish proverb: Oh, a man with a tie. He wants to sell me something". Now Microsoft Teams is wearing that tie.

Look what I found: the "UNIX Programmer's Manual", came with a rebadged SGI the size of a small fridge. With a 15-page description of "The UNIX Time-Sharing System" by Ritchie & Thompson: "Perhaps the most important achievement of UNIX is to demonstrate that a powerfull operating system for interactive use need not be expensive either in equipment or in human effort: it can run on hardware costing as litlle as $40,000, and less than two man-years were spent on the main system software."
