@atpfm @siracusa regarding accidental input: the solution of this problem used to be having a folio case that would lock the phone when it closed. I’m so upset that Apple got rid of this feature back around the 12. But it just used the compass (and magnets in the folio). It was free! Every once in a while, I send Tim an email about it. Can’t hurt right?

@atpfm I don’t think the “pre populate phone data” idea was so crazy. They wouldn’t restore the data decrypted, they’d just put the encrypted data from iCloud servers onto the iPhone, and you’d be decrypting it on first unlock.

Apple could already do that, this doesn’t present extra danger? If there’s an issue it’s that it would be a day old backup. Maybe incremental restore would fix that issue?
I’m not saying this would be easy, but it’s totally possible!

@atpfm @siracusa Already a paper in response: "The Illusion of the Illusion of Thinking"

@atpfm @siracusa listened to your overtime on the Apple paper.

It's great Apple is investigating AI limits, as you said, but the paper seems to mistake "learned restraint" for a reasoning failure. The model is specifically trained never to output 30k repetitive steps, opting for a summary or code to solve such a problem instead. The paper's evaluation punishes that intelligent behavior, counting them as incorrect.

@marcoarment I didn’t know there was even an option to remove time slider on Lock Screen. Thanks.

I wouldn’t need this if they hadn’t gotten rid of folio detection on iPhones a few generations back.

@atpfm I am a 37 year old dad, and I did stop carrying a wallet around 2020. My drivers license is inside my iPhone case (it’s not a wallet case, card is literally inside the case).
To answer what happens if you go out to dinner and they can’t take Apple Pay: they can generally accept payment via a card number at the register (this happened once)
@siracusa @atpfm The H800s that DeepSeek trained on are technically newer than the H100, what’s important is that they’ve been handicapped with added constraints on memory bandwidth.
@marcoarment @atpfm where was the chapter art for the Honda discussion in overtime?
@marcoarment @atpfm I bought an Ioniq 6, and it’s very nice, but if you like single pedal driving it’s super annoying, you can’t turn it on by default. It resets any time you take it out of Drive. Ioniq 5 has the same software afaik
@caseyliss @atpfm Not that you needed this, but inflation is half the difference between your last car purchase and what you said you expect you’d pay for an EV (I think you’re overestimating on the cost of an EV equivalent to your last car)
