I walk. I walk a lot. Mostly I walk from my home in the Quantocks. I’m always accompanied by Mabel, our family dog, and together we stride over the hills contemplating life.

Just one ‘Spot the Dog’ from us today, though you do also get a bonus ‘Spot the Quantock Pony’ to occupy your scrutiny for a while!

@rgarcia I’m always fascinated by the vein-like shadows extending from these ancient beeches! It will all change soon though as they come into leaf….
@marypouy Yes - such a difference not to be sliding around in the mud! 😊
@nellie_m Yes if it’s not a ball it’s a tongue! Never work with children or animals….! 🙄

We’ve left Dorset and are back on the hill. If Mabel’s missing the sand between her toes she’s not showing it. Can you ‘Spot the Dog’ as she reacquaints herself with the Somerset hills?

Shute’s Lane near the village of Symondsbury in Dorset. The walls of this ancient holloway, or sunken lane, are some 10 metres below the surrounding landscape, the trail worn away after centuries of passing boots, hooves and cartwheels. Most of the sandstone walls are extensively carved in a varying array of graffiti, including elaborate Celtic patterns, ghouls and gargoyles, a practice that seems to have been ongoing for decades.

The Dorset exploration continues - this time we have been scouring two of Britain’s most famous holloways - sunken paths where the landscape towers above either side. ‘Spot the Dog’ comes from Shute’s lane whose stone sides are covered with hundreds of years of graffiti-style carvings. From here we progressed to Hell’s Lane - an utter quagmire after much recent rain & we struggled through deep, thick claggy mud - it was hell!

Spot The Dog is on tour! Mabel is busy discovering the delights of the Dorset coast - she’s hoping for a nicely matured dinosaur bone! Can you spot her amongst the shingle?

@marypouy @sigue Correct - she’s lowered herself into the wettest, muddiest part of the path in an attempt to turn into a chocolate Lab!
