@cwicseolfor @SRLevine yeah, I moved quickly after he made that post. It wasn't just bluesky, he also started using Instagram more. Huge disappointment that instead of trying to do anything at all to recruit folks to help when they were feeling overwhelmed, both of them just decided to disappear. Sam literally has all mastodon emails get immediately trashed.

@cwicseolfor @SRLevine about a month ago they said they had something like 9 months of money left to pay for hosting, and implied they weren't planning on shutting the servers down unless they ran out of money. You should have plenty of time to move, but the admins also don't seem particularly trustworthy, given how all of this has been playing out, so I'd move sooner rather than later.

If you move now the transition will be relatively easy, because you can have your account on urbanists point to wherever you go, and be able to retain most of your follows/followers. If you wait until it's offline you won't be able to do that.

I registered as an adult on an online service by using the photo mode in a video game, to take a picture of a character, then used that picture on the webcam to say I'm over 18 ✅
I do have to admit, making a giant skinner box for developers does sound like a good way to make money, at least on paper.

@SpecialK144 @uberduck @superball this is the same type of propaganda that Anthropic is constantly putting out. It's nothing but hype, meant to make their models look more advanced than they are. I don't believe that any of this is true.
@glyph I think the way to fight this is with malicious compliance. Wait for these tools to charge in a more pay-as-you go way, and then just rack up a huge bill while "following the mandate". When they realize that these tools aren't worth the cost the mandates will disappear.
@SpecialK144 @uberduck @superball this sounds made up
