Principal: Internal substitute teaching will be on the rise this semester. Please keep an eye out for memos, and be on time for any extra internal subbing.
Teachers: Why? What's happening?
P: Please check the sub schedule each week for details.
T: Why does it only have times and dates, no information on who we are subbing for?
P: That's secret information. The management team doesn't want you to know that we're giving extra holidays to our drinking buddies.
Vice Principal: We'll be adding dozens of new students to your classes across the high school.
Teachers: Do the kids have their timetables?
VP: Ha. Why would we do that?
T: Do the kids have enough desks and chairs?
VP: Nope. No need to worry about that.
T: Have you tested the kids to see if they need English language support?
VP: Nope. We'll just let them wander into your classes without having any clue if they'll understand anything.
This is a classic that has popped up many times over the years, with a number of slight variations.
Teacher: Why haven't you submitted any work?
Student: I saw that you never mark anything, so I didn't think I had to.
Teacher: 🫨
Teacher: I'd like to report a concern with some of our construction workers publicly urinating on the new buildings, just outside our classroom windows, in full view of teachers and students.
Principal: Why are you watching them urinating?
Teacher: Public urination is illegal, and it's wildly inappropriate for them to be doing so in front of minors.
Principal: No, you're in the wrong here. You shouldn't be peeping on grown men while they use the toilet.
I'm not sure which of you need to hear this, but:
If you push yourself to your limits and burn out for a company, you are trading years of your future productivity for minor gains in the present.
Burning out will _fuck you up_, it's like brain fog or depression, and it takes years to recover
Principal: As we have had high turnover, we have no chairpersons for any of the subject areas. Any volunteers? You'll get an extra £30 per month.
Teachers: Sure!
*One month later*
Teachers: Why didn't we receive our pay as subject chairs?
Principal: Oh, about that! We didn't feel like paying you as it would add too much to our expenses, but you still have to do all the curriculum and management work you've agreed to!
Principal: How's your history class going? Are your kids ready for their GCSEs in May?
Teacher: No, most are still failing. It doesn't help that most speak limited English. Could we get them some extra language support?
Principal: That's a terrible idea. If they won't pass their GCSEs, why don't you just start preparing them for A-Levels instead?
Teacher: What the actual ...?
School Leadership: Students are no longer allowed to wear hoodies on campus.
Students: How about blazers, jackets, etc.? It's winter after all!
SL: No. If it's cold, ask your teacher to adjust the temperature in your classroom.
ONE WEEK LATER
SL: As a formal statement to parents and our school community, we have never prohibited students from wearing appropriate attire that would keep them warm and safe during the winter season.
