Current* conditions near Duluth, MN:

RE: https://digipres.club/@preservetogether/116261565593979815

So excited to be working on a project I feel passionately about and with such a great group of partners!

Current* conditions near Superior, WI:

I presented at the local planetary journal club this morning about the 3 articles I co-authored for The Conversation in the past weeks about the effects that one million satellites would have on the night sky, the atmosphere, and the orbital environment (spoiler alert: all very very bad)

https://theconversation.com/a-new-space-race-could-turn-our-atmosphere-into-a-crematorium-for-satellites-276366

https://theconversation.com/too-many-satellites-earths-orbit-is-on-track-for-a-catastrophe-but-we-can-stop-it-275430

And one on light pollution that I thought would get published today but might not be out until after the weekend.

A new space race could turn our atmosphere into a ‘crematorium for satellites’

Planned ‘megaconstellations’ of satellites could cause unforeseen harm to the ozone layer and climate systems. Global regulation is needed before it’s too late.

#code4lib journal has a call out for articles about the use of #staticsite publishing:

> Contributions from any practitioner working on digital publication are welcome, regardless of the stage or sophistication of the publication’s development. This includes boutique, shoestring publications ... as well as large-scale projects that rely on institutional backing, development teams, practices, & infrastructure.

software is a mirror that reflects the times and the environment it was created in.

this is why much software created in the 1970s counterculture was joyful and humanistic, and why much software created in the 2020s capitalistic hellscape is soul-crushing malware (adware, spyware).

#retrocomputing can mean celebrating hardware limitations and creative coding, but it can also mean celebrating personal computing - computers that are tools for liberation - bicycles for the mind, not cattle trains to the slop farm.

Class war fare.
Spending more than they save just to avoid helping people. This sort of behavior makes clear having enough money to spend like this compremises your mental compacities. We should be reclaiming this ill gotten wealth for their own mental health.
