trying out a cute new profile icon for a bit :3 🐸☂️
thanks @heyheymomo for drawing, and @eta for commissioning+the background! 💜
update on this: great success, I now have a version of ICE Buddy with (almost) full support for Transport for Wales trains in ICE Buddy, and probably also Lumo who use a similar system (but I haven’t tested yet), and basic support for most other trains in the UK(!!)
notable exceptions being timetables, as I need to do a *lot* of work to get allocations from unit numbers (on TfW and Lumo, I can just get the timetable from the shiny GoMedia portal which has live journey info and a nice JSON API)
fun discovery of the day: the onboard Wi-Fi system on this SWR train I'm on was probably installed before it was refurbished
I was confused by the 'system ID' in the Icomera OmBord API as it didn't look like a carriage number, yet when I pasted it into RealTimeTrains to find it, no results
then I realised the 'system name' field has a slightly different number ...
turns out this unit was renumbered from a 450/5 (Wikipedia tells me with a 'high capacity' interior?) to a 450/0 when refurbed!
Hello from Waun-Gron Park, where I’ve just hopped off one of the first runs of the new South Wales Metro tri-mode class 756 trains … running on the overhead wires!
review: basically the same as the class 231 diesel FLIRTs they’ve been running for a while, but *so* much quieter
TIL (or rather, re-discovered) that the lids on paper smarties tubes actually have a latching mechanism to keep it closed
this little tab next to the opening is reasonably stiff and gets caught in this catch inside the lid
it only works a few times but apparently a tube is meant to be 2 servings so i suppose so
nifty
this evening’s escapades: starting the not-insubstantial prep work in anticipation of getting fibre installed at my flat on Wednesday — 1.8Gbit down, thanks to @faelix
due to layout issues, the only good place for the Openreach ONT (for now…) is in the living room, requiring a fibre run some 10m from the exterior wall, through a staircase!
scheme: remove (and put back) some panelling/boards, in order to install flex conduit
(landlord’s happy as long as it’s neat and tidy)
