#c25k W9D3: Holy shit I did it.
9 weeks from barely being able to run 60 seconds to running 30 minutes continuously, with no repeats or skipped days, despite desperately wanting to.
One thing I learned over the past few weeks: don't make your route hover around your starting point, go "out and back" as a friend of mine described it. At least for me, the temptation to stop when I'm near my front door is high, but if I'm far from home, it's easier to just keep going.
#c25k W9D1: has it really been two months since I started doing this? It doesn't seem that long, but it's hard to imagine I went from barely running a minute before collapsing to running 30 minutes continuously.
This was the first full 30min run, and it went pretty well, all things considered. I was in great shape for the first half, started flagging around the 20-25min mark, and...er...kinda wanted to die during the last few minutes, but I made it.
Holy shit. 😲
#c25k W8D3: did I really say it went pretty well last time? I was dead less than five minutes into today's run, and while it's a few degrees warmer today, I can't think of anything else that might have made me struggle so much, other than it's the third day and my body just really needs that two-day weekend.
Anyway, I pushed through it, but I am *spent* right now. "I was promised a runners' high, and all I got was this lousy exhaustion", etc.
Onward to the final week.
#c25k W7D3: finally, some progress. I was still having a rough time for most of the run (particularly the last few minutes), but post-run I'm feeling considerably better than the first two runs.
Given how much trouble I seem to have in the final segment, I'm a little worried about Monday tacking a few more minutes onto the run. (Next week is three 28min runs.)
Well, we'll see how it goes. Two days off, then back to it.
#c25k W6D3: Well, that sucked.
First 25min run of the program, and I felt like dropping out before I even hit the halfway mark. Got my second wind after that, but by the end I was completely drained. Good thing I have two days off until... next week's 25min runs. Welp.
On the other hand, "Laura" said I'm officially a runner now, and I feel like I could hear her barely holding back a giggle at how cheesy that line was. I guess even the personal trainers have their troubles. 😉
#c25k W5D2: well, I feel about the same as I did on Monday, which is probably good news, but I was really struggling near the midpoint of both 8min segments.
Still worried about Friday's 20min segment; that's a pretty huge step up in duration when I feel like I'm still struggling with these shorter jogs.
We'll see how it goes. Worst case is I repeat the week, but since I've managed this far without doing that, I'd prefer to keep my streak intact. 😉
Also, the NHS C25K app is very British...
#c25k W3D1: Uh, that was...easy? And now that I look at the actual intervals, it makes sense: you're jogging for 9 total minutes per day in week 2, but only 7 minutes in week 3, it's just that one of the jogging intervals is much longer (3 minutes rather than 90 seconds).
The jump from week 3 to 4 looks like the rough one: 16 total minutes of jogging, two 3-minute intervals and two 5-minute intervals.
That's next week though. For now, I'm going to forget I looked at any of this.
