#Journalist and author writing about business, technology, economics, finance, politics, and public policy. Also into art, cooking, and now learning to build furniture. Could probably use coffee. Warning, there will almost certainly be dad jokes at times. Oh, what am I saying, there will always be dad jokes. Why would Trump announce the closure of the Kennedy Center for a two-year renovation? My three top guesses:

1. He wants to make it completely about him.
2. It gives an excuse for not hosting all the artists who refuse to perform or premier works there.
3. The Epstein Files.

Sometimes stumbling across something unexpected can send you down a rabbit hole, or even a vampire’s grave. A new post on my Substack newsletter.

Some Off-Beat Questions About Being a Vampire

Sometimes a short video clip can send one’s mind into strange places.

On Second Thought

One of mine on
@Forbes
: "Trump Tariff Pressures Europe Over Greenland With US Taxpayers To Pay"

And, apparently, it comes down to self-admitted psychological needs and the lack of getting the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump Tariff Pressures Europe Over Greenland With US Taxpayers To Pay

And in cosmic irony, reportedly the push to take Greenland, whether by purchase or potentially by force, was because Trump wasn’t awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Something of mine on Forbes online.

"The Jobs Report Didn’t Improve People’s Real Affordability Crisis"

The Jobs Report Didn’t Improve People’s Real Affordability Crisis

The economy is supposed to be doing well according to some observers. Tell that to the majority of the county that can’t keep up with inflation, tariffs, and job stress.

The combination of evil, selfishness, a bully's nature, and unfathomable stupidity is a bad combination.

"Stephen Miller: ‘Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily’ over Greenland"

New LinkedIn-based scam.

An email claimed someone I didn't know messaged me on LI. I clicked the link and ended up at a sign-in page but should have been logged in already. No new messages. I checked the email again and noticed the strange URL.

Be wary out there.

New from me on Forbes: "Longer Unemployment Outside A Recession Is The New Normal"

For the first time since at least 1948, the amount of time people are out of work has been growing without being triggered by a recession.

Longer Unemployment Outside A Recession Is The New Normal

What once was a pattern that only happened during and after a recession is now, disturbingly, becoming an everyday trend.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has had a decades-long congressional mandate to provide a public media system. It is now shutting down completely because of GOP defunding efforts.

Here's the release:

Corporation for Public Broadcasting Addresses Operations Following Loss of Federal Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 1, 2025) – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades.

Can we please stop talking about the GOP's struggles to cut government spending? They want to cut certain types of government spending to spend more on tax cuts and other expenditures that focus on the wealthy.

I have a new piece out on Forbes.com: "Does Elon Musk’s Borrowing Show A Super Low Tesla Stock Valuation?"

There are questions about the stock he uses as loan collateral, how much he's allowed to borrow under recent company rules, and what's being disclosed.

Does Elon Musk’s Borrowing Show A Super Low Tesla Stock Valuation?

If that isn’t the case, then Tesla’s board seems to be enabling Musk to borrow against his shares to a much larger degree than the rules they’ve set out.
