Oh dear. I don't think Biden lied; I think it was an extremely poor choice of words (as in, when people say something like "I never thought I would see the day that ...").

But he should not have been repeating unconfirmed reports, full stop.

For the record, crime rates are trending up (for the entire country, including red areas), but are still far lower than in the 1990s. The reasons are complicated but mostly have to do with pandemic-related disruptions and economic hardships, not to mention the widespread availability of murder weapons. NOT criminal justice reform, which this country desperately needs.

Today's front page of the Daily Tar Heel is filled with text messages to and from UNC students during the campus shooting on Monday, while under lockdown for three hours. A powerful and sad statement about the horror our country regularly subjects young people to.

One, this is a third of the space devoted to Hillary Clinton's nothingburger email story weeks before the 2016 election. I know the charges came in late, but they should have been holding the space or had multiple versions ready to go or something.

Two, "bid to flip vote"? That's what they're calling it? Yikes.
