I build compilers for quantum computing by day and do hiking, woodworking, writing, and more for fun.

The holidays can be a really tough time. The advice I often heard was, "Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Help others. Get out of your head." It's perfectly fine advice, but unhelpful if the mere thought of interacting with people is overwhelming. Anyway, here's a thing I did one year that did help:

I bought a Cookie Monster costume, went to the airport, and waited at arrivals with a sign that said "COOKIE"

Didn't have to talk to anyone and boy did I get to watch people's faces light up.

@LowlyAdjunct @chestas Yep. Simplifies grocery store trips and reduces impulse purchases. You can mix up the schedule a bit and throw in a random "mystery restaurant/take out" night. Waste a lot less food and money.
@emptywheel Mulvaney was platformed by CNN to say that the testimony of obstruction was compelling but that testimony of everything else was questionable. Distracting from the insurrection by pushing the cover-up?
@msignorile Reads like an advertisement: we're busy hemorrhaging our user base.
@dangillmor With mastodon's decentralized design, news organizations could take control of their own microblogging. Why wouldn't they jump at the opportunity?
@GregCirillo @GottaLaff The political bothsiderism is understandable. But his comment doesn't really hold any water. If the R voters actually wanted moderate representatives they've have voted for them. Instead they went for the extremists in most primaries. Kinzinger is guilty of wishful thinking here; he knows full well that the base wants extremists.
