I never knew how much could go into tweaking a map, I'm very proud of this areas this map highlights or hides away. For example, this map highlights Campgrounds from very var away, also water+bathroom stops, as well as places that sell food. Everything else is toned down, high ways, unnecessary car infra.

Read more about it here https://github.com/eljojo/bike-app-astro/blob/main/scripts/build-map-style.ts

I also added a high contrast map for colourblind people. In 2023 I met a cyclist with it, during a critical mass ride, he told me how much he struggled reading normal maps. This one's for you, Daniel!
Ottawa by Bike now has a really nice vector graphics map, I spent all of yesterday tweaking it, it looks so good! https://ottawabybike.ca/map/
Bridget Riley's work is literally the first thing that shows up in wikipedia for Op Art. I learned about her recently and her work has deeply influenced me, it's visually hypnotic in a very transcendental way. She's still alive and I admire her and her work very much.

The website is now also entirely open source. It runs in the cloud and you can contribute features to it!

edit: for some reason GitHub is 500ing on the repo, here's a screenshot of what the repo looks like

You can contribute with routes, either adding new ones or improving the existing ones with photos or text. Drop a GPX file to add a new Option to that route.

Also, the Calendar is available to add new Events to it.
