For eSIMs, I found Cape works fine if you add it after installing Graphene. As a plus, it can be found in the Accrescent store. They are pricy but I find their service is about as reliable and costs the same as an equivalent T-Mobile plan. The catch is that they didn’t even ask for an email at signup. You just install it, pay, and you’re off.
And I agree with you on the dev team. I do like Graphene and the security and piece of mind they give. I just wish they were more… how should I put it… respectable when they post online. I get what they’re saying and I feel it’s good to debate these things. But there’s a difference between a respectable debate and lashing out.
I personally feel going full dumb phone is not for me. The way I live my life and the conveniences I’d like, a degoogled or open source phone would suffice. But that is my choice and that’s what’s important. I have control and can pick and choose what will get my attention and what will just have to wait.
The author seems to have completely given up their control over themselves and handed it to big tech. You’re right, big name phones are designed to such us in and make us dependent on them. For some, dumb phones are the solution. It’s definitely harder to fall off your goal of living your life. But for me personally, if I just configure a phone right, I can have it go dumb, but still have more access should the need arise.
I’ve just started a Pixelfed for this reason. Instagram started giving me tips on how to increase my reach. I just wanted to post a picture of what I was up to. I didn’t care how many people saw it. But that nagging got into my head.
When I posted my first picture on Pixelfed, I had to admit, I was disappointed to see just three likes. But that’s me sort of detoxing from social media. I need to get back to having the mindset I used to have. I’m posting to share my day with whoever happens across it. I don’t need a certain reach or number of likes. I just want to share what I thought was interesting at the moment.
