Still can't understand why people ship Linux distros with no gui to mount NAS drives.
So I'm guessing there is still now way to globally change the scroll bar size to something wider than a hairline!
The 7am answer is...
It's a lot of small websites run by different people, that are connected together to make a larger network like FB/Twits or even YouTube!
Only go into the details of how it works when asked. It's only confusing if you try to explain how it works under the hood. Need to talk more about the ideal user experience rather and how many bolts you need...
I think Audacity is the perfect example of why this has not been deemed important. Audacity has been used by countless people over the years despite the UX problems. Instead time and resources have been put into porting to different platforms, keeping up with OS changes and improving features and stability.
If they had tried to so as many UX changes as Windows or Apple then that would have been less resources added to the core functions or need a much bigger team. For me the thing with FOSS is not that it has to be as good as the competition always. I believe it will get there in the end, if we all keep trying.
I see the move to FLOSS, and I do believe we will all eventually be using FLOSS because you can't beat free on price, but I see it as a marathon not a sprint. The UX can be fixed in the start of the race for some and in the last 100m for others.
That said, common UX standards and best practices are of course welcome and will come in time. All we can do is try and help speed up the process and call out anything that set it back.
Unfortunately still relevant today.
The audio on this video don't seem to work for me
PeerTubeYou could just keep the last X no of vids on here and dump the old videos onto Archive.org or something. Do many people even watch older videos on this platform anyway? Even if they do I can see a case for just having a recent cache of your stuff here and delete the older stuff. It's still easy to find the older stuff elsewhere if needed.
Best of luck with the fundraising if not.
As a long time Linux user I have to say... I mostly agree. The biggest problems I encounter are massive backend changes like wayland, pipewire , snaps, flatpacks and the like.
What will fix the problem is more agreement and collaboration between the different distros. Working towards a common way of doing most things. As well as much better settings and configuration standards. The solution that will change the user base most will be when you can rock any distro without having to launch the terminal, not even ONCE!
It's 2025, time to realize the GUI won.
Maybe we get HL3 when it comes out....
