Retired IT/distributed systems researcher, still a nerd.

There are two problems in computer science:

1. We could do this better
2. We should not do this at all

Heinlein described what we consider an artifact of internet culture in 1949, in Gulf:

Movie piracy is bad. That's why I want to know the best sites to block so I live free of sin.

I used to block dopebox.to, but since it doesn't work the way I want, I no longer need to block it.

What other good sites are there that I should block or whatever?

Sex & Nudity:
There is no sex or nudity.
Friends and enemies, I would like to show you the best blue screen of death I've ever seen. I pulled over with two hyperactive dogs in the car just to take the picture.
Partner's mum of 85 was recklessly given covid by her grandson last week (at least the little sod has now owned up after initially denying anything to do with it). She has not been well, another 4 weeks is not going to help. Mask up in public and try to recover completely.

THINGS WE DID:
Built This City, Shot The Sheriff.

THINGS WE DIDN'T DO:
Start The Fire, Shoot The Deputy.

THINGS WE WANT TO DO:
Break Free, Know What Love Is.

THINGS WE WILL DO:
Rock You, Anything For Love.

THINGS WE WON'T DO:
That.

The entire Dune cycle is based on a terrible pun.
1. The spice is called melange.
2. The spice confers power and longevity.
3. Melange is a French word for variety.

In other words, variety is the spice of life.

Why does no one ever talk about this?

Two quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson I found while looking for something else:

"Marriage: A friendship recognized by the police."

"Marriage is the process of finding out what kind of man your wife would have preferred.”
