Trying to improve ops by day, and build the future of the Internet by night. Also racing, rockets, and retrocomputing.

Hey @obfuscurity and @petecheslock , I'm watching the VODs for @monitorama and as usual it's a fantastic selection of talks. Still bummed that I couldn't make it this year, and was kinda shocked how empty the theater was this year. I hope it worked out, because I really want to submit a CFP for next year. 🤞🏻

Tired: Organizing the world's information and making it universally accessible and useful.

Wired: Owning the web and middle-manning every interaction in the world, thus maximizing ad revenue.

Inspired: Using ML to middleman the whole idea of knowledge into an unreliable stochastic word-slurry so people need to quadruple-check every piece of information they ever want or need by clicking around to dozens of other sources, thus maximizing ad revenue.

Oh, how I've missed watching racing and the 24hr of Le Mans is being quite excellent so far and we're only 38min in! Still kind of bummed that I missed the two races I wanted to see at Circuit of the Americas this year (MotoGP and GT World Challenge), but Lone Star LeMans is back next September so I get my early birthday present back next year!
I don't know who needs to hear this: Surveillance is not Security. It is *at best* a log, and that's assuming your surveillance doesn't fail and has visibility to an incident. What does provide security? Locks, alarms and an engaged community are a start. Cameras everywhere just mean big tech can monetize everything you do to cops, wannabe cops, predators, and other corporations.
Oh hey, I will actually be able to finish my Enterprise D model! It was a build up kit from Eagle Moss, who sadly went out of business last year. But the inventory and rights have been purchased and you can pick up where you left off. They have no customer data from EM, this you have to resubscribe. Please spread the word to your local nerds! https://www.fanhome.com/us/movie-series/star-trek-model-kit/

My fellow cis Americans, I want you to look at this map. Really look at it. And I want you to imagine what it would feel like if those red states were threatening you and your family. Because, ultimately, they are.

This is what creeping fascism looks like. It will harm ALL OF US. And it will take all of us, together, to fight it.

We don't sacrifice people. We stand with our trans siblings. When their rights are threatened, all our rights are threatened.

May Anti-Trans Legislative Risk Map

The map of anti-trans risk has polarized into two Americas - one where trans people have full legal protections, and one where they are persecuted by the state.

@major Since you still use SIP for "land lines", how do you manage SPAM? My folks are on voip.ms and they don't appear to have good anti-spam measures or support for SHAKEN/STIR. Any pointers you can share?
@obfuscurity Howdy! Thinking about getting a Framework, and I'm curious as to your thoughts on build quality with yours. I've tended to buy Thinkpad T series because I'm very hard on these machines over time. I'd love to hear about your experiences!

Learned about this bot this morning.
1️⃣ record the major tv news networks
2️⃣ OCR the bottom third of the screen (the chyrons)
3️⃣ once an hour, ask chatgpt to summarize that OCR output

I am still processing the level of meta/indirectness/etc. going on here.

I'm just gonna patch lsb_release so that it says I'm on "Mozilla Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye), like Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS"
