@arstechnica Who's being held accountable for the measles outbreak?
@arstechnica The main thing when picking an alternative should be a platform that isn't owned by any one entity. Corporate owned platforms like Upscrolled can always be bought by the next billionaire, just like TikTok.
@Bandersnatch I could see this working for some; I've myself found me to be watching less TV than I used to, and it's getting to the point that newer TVs hardly justify their price. if you only use it for certain events during the year, you could end up saving money.
@hugh they do when necessary
@[email protected] seatbelts have saved lives even on cases of racing incidents.
@Tekchip it's probably going to be extremely difficult, as it seems they've prepared for the eventuality of people trying to bypass the ads. I assume it only displays video files downloaded from their ad service.
@crackhappy well, they tried…
@60sRefugee You should read more into it; the investigation found that the company skipped safety tests that would've exposed the design flaws, and one engineer in particular raised alarms about it and instead was fired. So technically you're right that they didn't know the hazards… because they didn't even try to find them. All to save a few bucks.
