Heck of a time tuning the elecraft AX2 (with 40m coil and counterpoise) on the cw portion of 40m. The stock configuration tunes up easily on 20m. I wonder what I’m missing?

Dang it! Wrecked another perfectly good mobile antenna mount / coax assembly. Any tips on cleanly routing coax into a 2019 4Runner?
Routing through the top hinge of the hatchback works but is prone to severe damage.
