@malwaretech ANAL but tenant protections vary per city/county really. Cursory search shows that LA and adjacent areas have a couple of departments to deal with that (LA housing department and others).
Anecdotally in San Francisco the rent board (https://www.sf.gov/departments/rent-board) regulates these situations and orgs like the tenants union (https://sftu.org/) offer free consultation

@hacks4pancakes @inlaing looking into Calendly integrations and on their "standard" tier, theoretically you could set up a Zapier+Paypal workflow on booking and trigger payment on no show- however, that requires paypal on both ends, you managing a whole stack and also you didn't post looking for solutions
