Sam Bankman-Fried and the FTX scandal was just a one-off... or was it? Here is Changpeng "CZ" Zhao stepping down as CEO of Binance and pleading guilty to money laundering charges as part of a $4.3 billion settlement with the US Department of Justice. https://www.semafor.com/article/11/21/2023/binance-ceo-cz-steps-down-in-doj-settlement
CZ to step down as Binance CEO in $4 billion settlement with DOJ | Semafor

The reported settlement amounts to one of the biggest corporate fines in U.S. history.

Anyone who wants this back in the White House doesn’t understand the true danger of one-man, authoritarian rule.

So holding politics to account is absolutely our business.

One year ago today November 18, 2022 was the Twitter Lockout, and in one amazing day a quarter million new users flocked to Mastodon. Not everyone stayed, but a great many did. We have continued to confront disruptive growth, while striving to hold onto ideals of community, kindness and respect for each other. Is Mastodon perfect? No, but today, one year later, the state of our platform is strong. Open social media is thriving.

#twittermigration #mastodonmigration

Well, well, well, after ranting at #universities for supposedly 'no platforming' people whose views were deemed 'unacceptable' t transpires that across the #civilservice, the #Tories have issued guidelines to staff to ensure exactly that when it comes to events they are hosting/convening.

So, as so often with those championing #freespecch, its free speech for us & our supporters but for you (critics), not so much.

#hypocrisy on a grand scale!

@ohtwist I have joined all of the main ones to have a look. I am committed to the philosophy and approach of Mastodon and the wider fediverse and will try to keep it as my home on social media, but there is no harm in checking out other platforms. Bluesky is currently like a non-toxic Twitter, although without a few features such as DMs. Whether it will remain non-toxic is open to question, but it works well and is attracting a few academics and journalists, etc.
