Starting Pride Month off with a pretty nice sunset
The beautiful, but cold, view from the alpine lake at Sleeping Beauty Mountain Provincial Park outside of Terrace. There are tenting pads, a picnic table, and an outhouse here, but many reports say the bugs are relentless in the summer. No bugs today though!
Spent the past two days exploring the Nass Valley and the Anhluut’ukwsim Lax̱mihl Angwinga’asanskwhl Nisg̱a’a (Nisg̱a’a Memorial Lava Bed Park).
In the 1700s, Canada's most recent volcanic eruption sent lava flowing down the valley, damming lakes, and burying the local Nisg̱a’a communities. Today, the Nisg̱a’a communities of Gitlax̱t'aamiks (New Aiyansh) and Gitwinksihlkw (Canyon City) sit adjacent to the lava flow, while the area also hosts the Hli G̱oothl Wilp-Adoḵshl Nisg̱aʼa museum and the Hlgu Isgwit hot springs.
Rainy day hike up to the Joe L'Orsa cabin in Babine Mountains Provincial Park, on the traditional and unceeded territory of the Wet'suwet'en nation. It was wet and cold today, but I would love to come back in summer and camp here during alpine meadow wildflower season to get a view of the surrounding peaks.
Finally made it to my first fire lookout! 😄
This is Owen Lookout, located outside of Houston, BC. Was a mostly nice day but a little bit of rain as we were going up the trail, but that led to a pretty nice rainbow at the top.
Recently got to tour the SkyTrain operations & maintenance centre, which was a bit of a dream come true for me. It was really cool to see the control room and see behind the scenes after years of listening to it on the radio.
A big thanks to the folks who made this experience possible!

Scenes from a late morning hike to Goose Lake. No, we didn't try the canoe.
