In other non German tank news the whole secret U.S. no fly list was just leaked after being posted by mistake on an unsecure server. To no ones surprise a very large share of it are obvious Muslim/Arab names. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/no-fly-list-us-tsa-unprotected-server-commuteair/
EXCLUSIVE: U.S. airline accidentally exposes ‘No Fly List’ on unsecured server

Leaked TSA No Fly List: CommuteAir, a regional carrier, left a copy of the U.S. No Fly List on an unsecured server.

I understand that some ppl remember fall of USSR- but Russia is a much more nationally coherent state (71% Russians) then USSR was (~50% Russian) & separatist sentiment among minorities limited to Chechnya & Tatarstan- both v.small minorities. Breakup of Russia accordingly very unlikely

The benefits of Russia’s coming disintegration

The West made a grave mistake when it assumed the collapse of Soviet communism meant the end of Russian imperialism.

@profmusgrave Yup way too much tech (esp. educational tech) of last few decades is like the self checkouts in supermarkets- promises better life & in practice transfers to you extra work. Hard to think of any new edu tech since early 90s that made teaching easier overall
irregardless of any effects (if any) of the social media part of the Russian intervention in 2016 /2 https://www.amazon.com/Meddling-Ballot-Box-Electoral-Interventions/dp/0197519881

Interesting new study finds that social media campaign aspect of the 2016 Russian intervention was ineffective. As usual in these studies however it ignores other key aspect of the Russian intervention-the hack & dump of docs from Clinton campaign/DNC. As I find in chapter on 2016 Russian intervention in my book on partisan electoral interventions, hack & dump of docs by Russia via wikileaks gave Trump key boost that swung to him election in the electoral college /1 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-35576-9

I have a half sabbatical coming up at HKU- so I’m happy to announce that I’ll be a Visiting Associate Research Scholar at the Department of Political Science at Columbia in the first half of 2023 (from start of January). Hopefully it'll be productive & go well.
Happy 2023!!! Hopefully a decent year for once in this otherwise rather miserable decade so far.
