It's so funny that one of the "Don't move to Mastodon" arguments was "the DMs aren't even encrypted." The Bluesky devs are like "Yeah we've introduced DMs, only text at first and no E2EE yet but it's here!" and like, there will be no E2EE. It will be as private as "mentioned only" posts on Mastodon- only instead of the downside that admins are able to see it, all of the private messages on ATProto will be squeezed through Bluesky's AI content moderation services which can't be held accountable for misjudging your personal banter or thinking a drawing is a penis.
