i was half paying attention so that took way longer than it should have. if i was giving it my full attention it would have probably taken me 10 minutes. but then i would have missed all the glorious shitposts

@cedricchin @emargee it bears repeating i'm a total newb to mastodon and its architecture and i don't even know Ruby so maybe this is a much harder problem than i realized

@cedricchin @emargee yeah, i'm in favor of keybase integration for verification (not the same as twitter but still cool) and then also on the old account side you could do something to indicate that you are forwarding to the new ID@instance.

@emargee yeah, i don't fully understand the architecture but there seem to be push and pull queues, i don't see why there couldn't be a push out to other instances containing a forward message and the instance just drops a notif on everyone following that person to ask if they want to update their entry

@cedricchin @emargee it means you can do only what it says there verbatim. your following, blocked, and lists. if you make a new account and import your followers, and i follow your old account, my entry for you in my following list doesn't get updated automatically. i have to realized somehow you've moved and add your new account.

@emargee yeah i'm not a dev on the project but it seems like it'd be cool if on both instances, you could input on each one that you're forwarding from here to there, and each person's instance should update their follow info when this information is either looked up or included in the toot stream somehow. there's got to be a slick way to do it

i'd just delete my account but i actually like some of the people on there and want to keep up with their content. it's unfortunate
