This is the largest heat pump in the world (60MW).

It is located in Esbjerg, DK and provides heating for 100,000 people.

The heat pump replaced coal-fired thermal generation using Denmark's electricity which is 2/3 from wind and solar.

The Belt-and-Road Initiative ( #BRI ) has reached the ripe old age of 10 this month. Is it really greener than ever, as mentioned in a recent Reuters story?

Here's a new Environment China podcast to help you prep for this week's Belt-and-Road forum on this critical anniversary:

"It is almost a patriotic duty to replace boilers that once depended on Russian gas."

Hard to believe but it is a line from the Telegraph acknowledging the innovation happening with heat pumps right now across the world.

China recently introduced a major reform of its green certificate market. I wrote about the changes here:

Here's what I want in a social media platform:
a) Verification that every user is either a confirmed human or an authorized bot
b) Effective moderation to keep the assholes in line
c) The ability for a user to create topical channels that other users can follow in case they only want a small sliver of all your content
d) Multimedia posts with decent limits (e.g., 1k characters would be fine)
e) Groups
f) Effective user/group search engine
g) Reasonable, if any, ads
h) Reasonable privacy policies

is a really good summary of where Amazon is in terms of decarbonising its digital infrastructure - they have just released their latest sustainability reports, and clarified which regions that count as 100% renewable, an annual basis.

Also! This is the first year ever that Amazon's carbon emissions have reduced year on year.

You don't need to be an Amazon fanboy to recognise this as progress along a pretty important dimension.

Heat pumps and the chocolate factory:

Forget about Oompa Loompas. The real heroes are heat pumps.

Chocolate makers around the world use heat pumps to cut energy use and carbon emissions.

Very happy to see Eunice Foote getting some attention from Google today. I learned about her for the first time only a couple years ago.

Nice to see a positive, accurate, and travel-section-worthy article about EV road-tripping, along with practical advice on apps and routes. Though it’s fair to focus on the charging issues for policy-oriented articles, for those without EV experience it doesn’t capture the experience to just focus on the problems.
