@dboo with the horizontal ripples in the right half of this image, and the washed out distant horizon, I suspect this is a double exposure. I had a few of those on accident back in the day when I switched film mid-roll (to switch ISO) and accidentally did not return to the correct frame when I eventually returned to finish that roll.
Back on after 10 minutes. At -10°F, a prolonged outage would have been bad. Evidently a “load shedding event”.
This seems like a really big power outage in the middle of a cold snap in Anchorage. I wonder what’s up?
Waiting on an Alaskan social admin approval to start an account for my campaign. Watch for it. It will mostly be kinda boring selfies with hopefully non-boring anecdotes from campaign door knocking. People in my district are way more interesting than me.
@redrummy that’s kinda lame. Our household goes through 3+ gallons per week. Thanks for the heads up.
@leahwrenn @dboo having been in the PHEV market a couple of years back when my wife’s car was totaled, we had to buy in the lower 48, and even then it was hard to find. There are a dozen-ish states with high zero-emission-vehicle sales standards for car makers, and any EV/PHEV from a legacy manufacturer with limited EV/PHEV supplies is going almost exclusively to those states. My car search had to focus on those dozen states.
@dboo it probably doesn’t help that the electricity there is from coal, almost eliminating the carbon footprint advantage of an EV. That said, I know at least one FBX EV owner.
@patrace @AK_OK I’m working on it!
@patrace @AK_OK my local rep seems to think our schools should feel “lucky” with the governor’s vetoes and the projected deficits.
@mivox growing up in Fairbanks, my dad worked at the Gilmore Creek space tracking station, which is in an east-west oriented valley and completely shaded from the sun for a couple of months every winter. I’m pretty sure that lack of sun during his work week served as inspiration for my parents to get a house on Farmers loop with a solid view to the south.
