Of course Niantic used Pokemon Go for location training on autonomous weapons, but we weren't worried because it was just a fun game that got people outside.

Of course Snapchat and Instagram used filters to train facial recognition, but we weren't worried because it made our selfies look better and that puppy tongue was so cute.

Of course 23&Me was building a blood quantum database, but we weren't worried because we were curious about our background and it was just harmless fun.

We've been training a surveillance apparatus beyond the wildest dreams of any dictator this whole time.

We weren't worried because it's not like a bigoted authoritarian regime would rise and start abusing it, right?

...right?

If you can’t tax billionaires and trillionaire because “its unrealized gains until they cash out,” then stop letting them leverage that wealth for loans, as collateral, or as equity.

If it’s not real enough to tax, it shouldn’t be real enough to leverage.

This is why we say the system is rigged in favor of the super wealthy. Abolish billionaires, tax them out of existence, protect working people.

I think in the fediverse and especially with Misskey tags matter a lot when you want to get attention of other federations because of tag relays (and as a result I will be tagging my posts a bunch to see if i get increased reactions). I have just today figured out that you can follow fedibuzz bot accounts to subscribe to remotes and tags without forcing them to be instance-wise (Sorry for the troubles caused @deniz 🙏)

It is such an experience coming from Twitter/Instagram and skipping the process of using a public federated instance directly to self hosting, but I do not regret it one bit. I love how Misskey operates and being able to still communicate with the cool people of Mastodon (although with some hindrance) #misskey #mastodon #fediverse #tech #technology #twitter #twittermigration #instagram #socialmedia

Hey! I'm Deniz [de.niz]. I'm a programmer by profession and by hobby, and a linguist by training (undergraduate). I'm trying to be a good person but I fail sometimes (TM).

I'm studying Altaic linguistics currently, mainly Turkic and Japonic linguistics, and the Japanese language. I would like to learn German and Russian, and of course, some Romance language one day!

I'm tinkering around how to get some basic music playing app in egui for android (and later for desktop with syncing support). Did I mention I love listening to music (check my listenbrainz)!

As much as I like technology, I'm well aware of its environmental impact. I hate ai as it is utilized today, but it makes me happy to see advancements in microchip technology and the sort (certainly not just because of ai, but yeah).

So much to write here! I hate capitalism and narcissists. I value humbleness. I love listening to music and cooking (and eating)!

I'm looking for cyberfrens to share memes, talk about topics of interest, and maybe learn a thing or two! Ask me anything, especially about computing and linguistics! #introduction #introduction
