Geek, doc, dad, drone, former Capitol Hill Classic race director, righter of wrongs. Shouldn't have to be said, but views expressed here are my own. He/him. Proudly Washington DC.
Now that they’re in the 13th round of voting, the NYT has gone with a horizontally-scrolling depiction of the votes — you can slide the whole table right to see rounds one through three. Not a bad choice!
At the moment, it looks like the NYT decision is to squeeze every column in that they can — they’ve not crossed a threshold where they feel they need to innovate with some other visual presentation. But you KNOW that point is coming… what will they do??!? (This is the mobile version, which highlights the pickle they’ll soon be in.)
Is there a way in @elk to stop it from basically republishing boosted posts under the name of the booster, and then showing the exact same boosted post underneath it? I feel it's both redundant but also confusing, since it's a nontrivial cognitive load to see the same post twice and re-recognize that it's a boost and not the words of the top author. (Example of this shown in the screenshot.)
Given that this is the first time the House hasn't elected a Speaker on the first vote in over a century, it's also the first time in the web era — which means that the NYT is now in the position of figuring out the UI/UX of a table like this as the number of votes drag out. Will they just continue to add more columns? Will they collapse earlier votes into a new column that has a legend for the general gist of the earlier votes? Can't wait to see how they do it!
Like everyone else, my mind is pretty much blown to pieces by ChatGPT. But this answer made me laugh a lot.
