@rbreich So—judicial wrong to want to be the only branch with zilch oversight. Independence is independence in decision-making. Not independence from conduct rules, retirement rules, government contracting rules or legislative appropriations. What if legislative said judicial budget will only be 100k because you judicial can’t infringe on our purse string powers? Then they’d be SOL and the country would fall due to loss of a stool leg. The branches must cooperate to check and balance!
@rbreich it says a lot. The 3 branches are to check each other. So neither gets to escape some level of oversight by the other. The executive does the least oversight of the other two, but appoints. Judicial holds the legislative and executive to the constitution. Legislative hauls in the executive to answer and must have some level of scrutiny over judicial. Legislative should set the job descriptions for judicial and executive. Executive can enforce judicial decisions.
@ProPublica Justice using “close friends” for gift reporting exception. No one examining that for most officials, friends made “after” public life don’t count as cf. Still only your friend due to position—can’t separate unless was your friend before in position. Goes back to circuit court. Study to see if different for scotus.
