Chiba's editor made him redraw the scene, because that's not how girls are supposed to act!! In Kogarashi Kenshi, one of the central characters is the female ninja Kasumi, who, as you can see here, easily kicks multiple grown men's asses.

Around the same time as Kogarashi Kenshi, while drawing comics for girls' magazines ("shojo manga"), Chiba Tetsuya once got fed up by how demure and passive he was supposed to portray the female protagonists. So he drew a scene in which a girl gets angry and slaps a boy.

The first time I read Shirato Sanpei's Ninja Bugeicho a few years ago, I didn't understand why it resonated so much with college students and blue collar workers in the 1960s. After looking into Shirato and his work more, I finally get it. A THREAD!!
