Just a heads up; Github and Instagram/Threads/Facebook username is now synmux.

I'll be rolling the same out to other services as I think of them. If you can't find synmux, check syndotas.

FRIENDS: I'm no longer the owner of dave.io - I've sold it. For a fairly considerable sum. Completely out of nowhere.

I've migrated to syn.as for email (syn@).

When I get round to it, will maintain two sites - syn.as for normies, and syn.horse for my lovely queer nerd shitpost wizard pals.

@cassana @moof @quixoticgeek in case you're unaware, there was also a TV version uust called JAM which is the same threatening, unnerving comedy and very, very good.

A particularly favourite is "suicide with an escape clause" and the classic, the skit which is absolute peak JAM, TV lizards. I have no doubt that TV lizards is on YouTube somewhere if you want to see if it's your thing.

@moof I can probably count the number of people who will have the slightest fucking clue what is going on in this reply on one hand. But 11/10 work.

one of my favourite terms is "delta". A delta is a set of changes against a baseline. If you write "jam" and then change it to "blue jam", the delta is "blue ".

It's one of those words which saves a WHOLE bunch of other words. And good lord do I love me an opportunity to be concise.

@Frieda_M is this a kink thing

So today I learned a thing the painful way. Join me in my pain.

  • You want to pull a remote git update.
  • It won't apply.
  • You stash your changes then pull.
  • You pop your stash.
  • Wild CONFLICT appears!
  • You fix the conflict.
  • You add the fixed file.
  • Wait. Git has held onto the stash. What?
  • Maybe it just needs to be applied fully now the conflict is resolved.
  • You git stash pop.

And at that point, it destroys all of your work from the last four hours. Oh, and the stash is gone. Oh, and it's not in the reflog either. Fuck you.

I will say this. It is a very good job I have my backups set up. If I'm really really lucky, I've only lost half an hour.

Fucking git.

I post this every so often when it does something that makes me happy (which is quite a lot).

I absolutely adore Pulumi as an alternative to Terraform or other IaC products.

You build your IaC using a proper language; TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, .NET, Java, and if you want to be fully declarative for some reason, YAML.

You can use all the logic of that language in building your IaC, instead of having to be 100% declarative and hacking logic in.

It's superb.

@systemsobscure I mean in this context it's fairly clear. Someone who benefits from size privilege. I see what you're trying to get at, but in context it's fairly clear.
