I watched NBC/Peacock's new show Poker Face last night and was a bit disappointed. I was intrigued at the start—they were clearly channeling Columbo, one of my favorite shows of all time, with the cold open and that same distinctive yellow block font for the opening credits—but the show, or at least the premiere episode, didn't really pull me in. I do appreciate the nod to 1970s television, though, so I'll give the show a few more episodes to see if it improves.

Back home after a short vacation in New York with the wife. Took in a show featuring Samuel L. Jackson, visited #MoMath (the museum of #mathematics), had some proper NYC bagels and pizza, and played one of the chess hustlers in Washington Square Park (and actually held my own there for a bit before eventually getting checkmated). Overall, an enjoyable few days in one of the world's great cities.

Happy first day of winter! (I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune, though, when the #bombcyclone arrives.) To welcome the season, here is a Japanese woodblock print that I've always really liked. I believe the artist is Hasui Kawase. I don't know the name of the work unfortunately.

One of my favorite #EdwardHopper paintings, Carolina Morning. Painted in 1955, it is (I believe) his only painting depicting an African-American woman.
